Chickweed (Stellaria media)
Chickweed is an edible plant. It contains Beta Carotene, calcium, flavonoids, magnesium, niacin, potassium, riboflavin, selenium, Thiamin and Zinc. It has been reported to aid with post-partum depurative, relieve constipation, helps with coughs and hoarseness and beneficial treatment of kidney complaints. Known to aid as an astringent, carminative, demulcent, diuretic, expectorant, laxative and vulnerary. Chickweed can also be effective for allergies, rheumatic pains, wounds and ulcers.
Use: Teas, raw in salads and sandwiches, used in soups and various cooking dishes as an added herb.
